When your teeth don’t make contact in the correct position (occlusion) it can put considerable strain on the adjoining joints and muscles, plus cause you to clench and grind your teeth. By making small modifications to the surfaces of certain teeth we can often eliminate these symptoms. With your proper occlusion restored, you won’t have to worry about your facial muscles and joints overextending themselves.
With bruxism and misalignment of the TM joints, we can typically restore balance and comfort using an oral appliance such as an acrylic guard. These can prevent you from clenching and grinding your teeth together, lessening muscle strain and pain in your face. They also permit your jaw and muscles to loosen up and shift into a more comfortable position, bringing balance back to the joints, muscles, and teeth.
