If indulging in your favorite drink or having a scoop of ice cream isn’t as enjoyable as it used to be, we have some tips on how we can help. Tooth sensitivity often stems from excessive tooth wear and exposed roots, but also can be caused by:?

  • Cavities
  • Cracked Teeth
  • Whitening procedures
  • Gum Disease

Sensitive teeth can be made to feel worse when certain sweets, acidic drinks or any extreme temperature touches the tooth. It is important that an exam is performed and a proper diagnosis is given to address the root cause of the problem. Dental problems never get better on their own and often will continue to progress until treated.

Potential Treatment Options

  • Fluoride Treatment – a fluoride treatment may be recommended to sensitive areas to help strengthen the outer layer of the tooth.
  • Sensitive Toothpaste – desensitizing toothpastes can sometimes block pain
  • Mouth Guard – grinding leads to worn tooth structure through the enamel, which is the hardest structure in the body. Once the wear reaches the dentin, it accelerates. Stopping wear early saves tooth structure (and money); as fractured teeth are a common occurrence, but are completely preventable.
  • Tooth Color Bonding – exposed roots can often be covered with a tooth colored material to eliminate sensitivity.
